Moon Ride in Nepal

Roland Graf: Moon Ride: interactive installation
Roland Graf: Moon Ride: interactive installation

Roland Graf travels to Nepal to set up the interactive art installation Moon Ride, created by his artist collective Assocreation, in the streets of Kathmandu from Nov 22 — Dec 3, 2012. This installation invites participants of Kathmandu’s growing bicycle community to hook up their bikes to modified bike trainers, which generate electricity that illuminates a balloon light hovering in the night sky. The cyclists’ effort determines the brightness of the balloon. For Nepal, Assocreation has created a new version of this interactive art installation, which has been tested a few weeks ago in the Green Road Studios (see video link below). Moon Ride” will be part of the Kathmandu International Art Festival, which is the largest international art event held in Nepal — a country that still drafts a new constitution and is facing many political and environmental challenges.
