MOCAD: Post-Industrial Complex

PIC MG 3962 2 wide

A new exhibition catalog and public engagement survey features contributions from Stamps School faculty and staff, including Recruiting Representative and Summer Programs Coordinator Erika Hess and rootoftwo (A&D Assistant Professor John Marshall and Cezanne Charles).

Join MOCAD and Team Detroit for the launch of the catalog for MOCAD’s Summer 2012 exhibition, Post-Industrial Complex, curated by Katie McGowan and Jon Brumit. Post-Industrial Complex is a public engagement survey, group exhibition and educational source book that explores the ingenuity and adaptivity of human-scale production in the Detroit area. Initiated by a postcard submission campaign, the project explores and celebrates the independently creative spirit within the context of unprecedented shifts in industrialized manufacturing in the region. From the prolific inventor to the collective working to keep an aboriginal language alive, the exhibition includes a small yet representative sample of local brain power. The book features submissions from makers, tinkerers and modifiers in metro-Detroit plus essays by Wayne State University professor of history, Francis Shor, Detroit-based PhD candidate in anthropology at Harvard University, Julia Yezbick, and New York-based architecture historian and curator Nina Rappaport.

Catalog launch: March 1, 6 – 8 pm
