In May 2024, Lecturer and Engagement Program Coordinator, Melanie Manos was an Artist-in-Residence at Tides Institute and Museum of Art, Eastport, Maine, where she created gestural actions of labor and the new augmented reality work Herview: Maine.” Sourcing historic images from the Tides Institute and Museum of Art archives, Manos designed a three-part AR experience: a photo-based animation of women’s labor in the sardine industry, a performance video cutting whole raw fish, and wayfinding graphics using site-specific photographs.

In a public presentation, Manos led viewers to the AR on their phones, activating the moving imagery with audio and bringing the human experience of the fish-packing laborers to life. HerView: Maine will remain active and available for visitors to the Tides Museum via QR. Manos works with N. Ireland-based collaborator Mal Duffin to create HerView: AR experiences, using 8th Wall, Photoshop, Première Pro and blendr.
