Leslie Sobel: Artist in Residence with Climate Scientists

Dsc03782

Leslie Sobel (BFA 1983) will spend May 2017 as an artist-in-residence in the Eclipse Ice Field, the largest non-polar ice field on the planet, located in Kluane National Park in the Yukon Territory. Sobel will accompany University of Maine scientists Karl Kreutz and Seth Campbell, who will take ice cores to measure changes in CO2 levels over millennia. She plans to draw, photograph, and use her experiences on the ice field to make work that illustrates the changes in our climate and the wilderness on the ice.

Seth Campbell’s blog documents the environment and conditions of last year’s field work in the same location.
