Kit Parks: Invite Me In

Invite Me In
Poster design by Sky Christoph (@sky.christoph)

Work by Stamps Fiber Studio Coordinator Kit Parks (BFA15) is featured in Invite Me In, a new solo exhibition on view at Ypsilanti’s Sometimes Space gallery on September 5 and 14

Invite Me In situates the viewer at a domestic boundary where interior and exterior blur. Through layered textiles and installation, the exhibition explores craft traditions from the artist’s Armenian culture alongside contemporary surveillance and security practices. Protective motifs, disrupted patterns, and veiled imagery represent a search for grounded reality amidst an assault of misinformation and mass-surveillance.

Kit Parks is a Detroit-based artist and the owner of Spool & Dye Works, a handweaving studio and fiber art education center. Integrating woven, stitched, and dyed cloth with sculptural elements, Parks questions surveillance technology and the fluid space between private and public with a surreal softness.

The exhibition’s opening reception, on Friday, September 5 from 5 – 8 p.m., will feature an oud performance by Michigan-based contemporary Arab musician Raphique Barakat from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Sometimes Space is a Ypsilanti project space that features short-run exhibitions, occasional performance events, and screenings, founded and directed by Stamps Lecturer Nathan Byrne (MFA21).
