Kannenberg umma2 1

John Kannenberg (MFA 2012, MSP2010) was recently invited by Cheryl Tipp, curator of sound at the British Library, to write an essay about his ongoing practice recording the sounds inside museums. The essay discusses sound recording’s relationship with memory, curation, and what he calls the active sounds of history” at work within the museum environment. Several sample recordings are also presented, including an excerpt from John’s piece A Sound Map of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo” as well as a preview of his new work in progress, A Sound Map of the Art Institute of Chicago.”
