Gail Rosenbloom Kaplan (BFA 1976), recently completed an 18-panel glass mosaic installation at the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Troy. Completed with her glass partner Dani Katsir, this art commission involved students in 18 schools in Oakland and Macomb counties. Students and teachers submitted designs which Gail and Dani transposed onto wood boards. Students then assisted the artists in cutting colorful glass strips into a variety of shaped tiles, which were individually glued to complete the finished artwork: 18 nature-themed panels that bring the four seasons and the outdoors into the halls of the hospital as it serves area children and their families. This process allowed over 2,000 students to participate and feel ownership in a true community installation.
Hundreds of participants and their families attended an open house dedication on January 16th, 2016.
