Endi Poskovic Solo Exhibition and Lecture in Omaha
Gallery 72 in Omaha presents the solo exhibition Endi Poskovic: It Was All Just a Dream: Selections from 2003 — 2013 with an opening reception on Friday, September 13 from 5:00 — 9:00 p.m. There will be a Gallery talk on Saturday, September 14 at 11:00 noon. The artist will be present at both events. The exhibition features new works including the lithographs and woodcut prints produced through the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship. The exhibition continues through October 12, 2013.
Through the representation of familiar imagery Poskovic’s work proposes a range of eventualities, from hybridized narratives to unexpected scenarios, invoking a sense of place and time, and exploring ideas about displacement, memory and reconciliation. A critical element in many of his relief prints is the placement of invented phrases and words that are cut in wood, placed and printed below the images. Created in actual and/or faux Romance and Germanic languages, the captions contribute to interpretations that may simultaneously appear to be real and fictitious, rational and absurd. The intersection of the image and the written word in his prints reinforces the act of reading the two in a single context as a source of unlimited interpretive possibilities.
