Debut Performance of Holst’s Earth: Collin McRae
At Detroit’s Bennet Elementary School, artist in residence Colin McRae (MFA 2012) has collaborated with 5th grade students to compose an original score to complete Gustav Holst’s Planetary Suite
In a series of workshops as part of the Stamps School’s Detroit Connections program, Bennett students responded to music by drawing their own favorite parts of the Earth. The students then talked through ideas of different senses and expressions, giving direction on how to translate these drawings into sound and notated music. A specially assembled orchestra of 18 U of M School of Music students will perform the score on Monday, April 29, at 2pm, accompanied by a video projection of the drawings. Bennett Elementary is located at 2111 Mulane Street, Detroit.
