We are sad­dened to share the news that Pro­fes­sor Emer­i­tus Buzz Alexan­der has passed away. Buzz, hus­band of Stamps Pro­fes­sor Emerita Janie Paul, was a ground-break­ing artist, edu­ca­tor, activist, scholar, and a leader in using cre­ative prac­tice to effect social change. The founder of UM’s Prison Cre­ative Arts Pro­gram (PCAP) and pro­fes­sor of Eng­lish, Buzz also held a fac­ulty appoint­ment in Stamps and was a cher­ished mem­ber of our com­mu­nity. Buzz Alexan­der was a remark­able indi­vid­ual that touched count­less lives through his work and shaped arts edu­ca­tion and activism across the globe.
