Allen Samuels Designs to Help People Cut Food With One Hand
People who have Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Stroke, accidents, etc. often have the use of only one hand, making everyday tasks difficult or impossible. To assist, Emeritus Professor and Dean Allen Samuels has designed a set of dishes that secure food within “V” shaped raised walls.
The walls enable a user to cut food with a downward and pulling motion using one hand and a knife. The “V” shaped raised walls contain the food as it is cut into smaller portions until the last and smallest portion is consumed. Samuels continues to create designs for the elderly, the disabled, and victims of natural disasters.
