Alex Fedirko: “Streets of Detroit” Gown on Display

Ddress

Detroit artists Alex Fedirko (BFA 2003) and Christina Liedtke collaborated to design Streets of Detroit, a hand painted gown inspired by the history of Detroit. The gown will be on display in Fashion D.Fined, an exhibition celebrating the past, present and future of Detroit fashion, opening at the Detroit Historical Society on September 11, 2015, 6 – 10pm.

Behind every dress, there is a story. The story behind this dress has two hundred years, two artists, and one city.

Through thoughtful exploration, the structure of the gown made with 15 yards of silk gazar, the hand paintings, and the waistline holistically come together developing an iconic viewpoint that symbolizes Detroit’s history and journey in timelessness and beauty.

The design of the gown is separated into three distinguished segments from the bottom of the dress to the top developing a historical and present narrative through fashion, architecture, and community.
