There is beauty in transformation. “Queens” is an ongoing photo documentary project by Nicholas Williams that concentrates on drag culture. The project, made possible with funding from the Kelly Mckinnel Memorial Award, began in the clubs and bars of San Francisco and has continued in Ann Arbor. Nicholas seeks to capture the intricacies of these individuals and their environments. Driven by curiosity and awe, this exhibit attempts to understand the work behind the flashy style, performance and culture of drag queens.
Special thanks are in order to Dulche De Leche, Jean Ware, Stevie Shakes, Ronny Nolasco, Ed West, Holly Hughes, and Andi Drogenous whose support and knowledge have constantly fueled and inspired Nicholas.
