Credit Hours: 3
Semester: Fall 2025

Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 239: Creative Programming.

Description: In this course, students create responsive multimedia environments that engage with visitors, spaces, and data. Using multichannel video, spatial audio, lighting, and electronic media, students design interactive experiences that react in real time to inputs like sensors, cameras, microphones, and online data streams. Course projects are created using leading platforms like TouchDesigner, Max, Processing, and openFrameworks. The course combines lectures, hands-on workshops, and project-based learning to develop technical skills and creative approaches. By studying works from pioneering artists, media designers, and significant movements in the field, students develop a critical framework to inform their practice. The course culminates in an exhibition of reactive installations and performances exploring interactive media and sensory perception. Students create a portfolio of innovative projects and a foundation in industry-standard tools for mediated environments.
