Senior Independent Studio

ARTDES 402.002, Winter 2025

Details

Credit Hours: 3
Semester: Winter 2025

Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 300: Any 300 Level Studio.

Description: Senior Independent Studio provides an opportunity for deeper skill building within the student’s medium of choice. Students develop self-directed creative work as part of a structured community of feedback from peers, faculty, and invited experts. Over the course of a semester, students research the culture and expectations of a professional/creative community that is relevant for their practice. They gain a practical understanding of the expectations within that context and how to present their work and generate professional opportunities. The course culminates with each student producing at least one portfolio-quality work targeted towards the professional community that they have identified. Students have access to classroom space, regular one-on-one consultations with faculty, and regular critiques from peers, faculty, and occasional visiting critics. Note: This course is open only to seniors who are not taking or plan to take Integrative Project (ARTDES 498/499).

Frequency: This course is typically offered in both the fall and winter terms of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
