Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 120: Studio: 3D.

Description: This course introduces students to jewelry/​metalsmithing skills and techniques to create contemporary jewelry as well as small objects for sculpture and product design. Sawing, piercing, soldering, forming, stone setting and finishing are covered in this course. Focusing on form and scale, students learn to use metal as a medium to convey ideas. Emphasis is placed on mastering craft, solving problems, experimenting with material, and developing innovative designs. Students are exposed to jewelry of different eras and cultures to help inform their own work.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in both the fall and winter terms of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
