Art and Design History - Lecture
ARTDES 151.001, Winter 2025
Credit Hours: 2
Semester: Winter 2025
Prerequisites: No Prerequisites.
Description: At Stamps, you are encouraged to find your voice as makers through experimentation across media in both art and design — to engage as makers in the ampersand of art & design. Our course, ARTDES 151, draws from that distinctly Stamps approach to making in an academic lecture course. We will explore art & design case studies, analyzed within their historical contexts, that may serve as your own inspiration for your own making. More specifically, we will explore histories in which artists and designers collaborated, found common ground, and created in parallel. Even when artists and designers worked apart, their work was informed by shared political, economic, social, and cultural contexts. Unique in its embrace of histories of both art and design, ARTDES 151 complements the uniqueness of the Stamps curriculum in which you study, engage, and create.Frequency: This course is typically offered in the winter term of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
