Description: This class is designed for innovative artists and designers wishing to develop a personal voice within the ever-expanding parameters of animation. Students propose, research, and complete the pre-production, production, and post-production for an ambitious animated project of their own design using whatever animation techniques that are best suited for their idea. The goal is to create a finished and polished, portfolio-ready piece that is 30 seconds to 5 minutes in duration. Possible visual approaches might include the use of analogue/handmade media (drawings, cutouts, clay, objects, people, etc.), digital media/imagery, stop motion, 3D, motion graphics, 2D/3D design elements, or any hybrid combination of these. Class sessions consist of hands-on work sessions, visiting artist lectures and workshops, screenings and readings of contemporary and historical work, animation research, and technical workshops.
