ARTDES 265.001, Fall 2024

Details

Credit Hours: 3
Semester: Fall 2024

Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 125: Studio: 4D.

Description: This course focuses on the practice of live action, moving image production for artists. Students cultivate their skills in camera operation as a way of directing the spectator’s gaze. Exercises focus on shot composition, camera movement, depth of field, motion clarity, and time-lapse recording. Using Première Pro as the editing software, students develop proficiency in continuity, split screen and sound editing, and in basic strategies for cinematic projection. When tripods and hand held shots are insufficient for capturing certain actions, students are encouraged to design and build custom rigging for their cameras. Throughout the term, students are introduced to projects — from contemporary art, theater, dance, and architecture — that employ cinematic imagery in inventive ways.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in both the fall and winter terms of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
