ARTDES 115.008, Fall 2024

Details

Credit Hours: 3
Semester: Fall 2024

Prerequisites: No Prerequisites.

Description: Studio 2D focuses on developing the basic visual skills used by artists and designers working creatively in two dimensions. Conceived as a broad-based, integrative approach to learning as well as making, this entry-level studio will sensitize students to processes of visual perception, two-dimensional construction and its potential for visual expression and communication. Working with point, line, shape, value, color, texture, and pattern, students are introduced to the form, language, vocabulary, concepts and principles associated with organizing two-dimensional compositions. Throughout the semester students gain technical skills and knowledge as well as an enriched aesthetic judgment. Projects emphasize the generation of image-based work, the organization and analysis of pictorial space and their implications for historical and contemporary meaning. Analog, digital, and lens-based media will be employed. A major intention of the Studio:2D experience will be to encourage discovery and stress the discipline necessary in achieving artistic growth and excellence. These activities form the foundation for more advanced art/design study and coursework in the future.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in both the fall and winter terms of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances. This course is also occasionally offered in the spring term.
