The Interstates Project is a multimedia sustained investigation by William Hohe and Charlotte Watson. Positioned around a 14-state, multi-day road trip and encapsulating the exploration of performance, personas, and character building along Historic Route 66, the artistic pair delve into the death of the American road trip and the state of the nation along its nostalgic mother road.

Towards the end of the trip, the bleakness of the Great Plains, especially in Wyoming, led us into a dual spell of exhaustion. Gravitating on the sullen, taupe hills outside of Cheyenne in the blue haze of a cheap motel, Charlotte personifies a motel hooker awaiting a client. Wanting to speak to the feminist side of our duo and the ongoing fascination with “The Billboard Girl” and people found along the way, Charlotte gazes at a universal symbol of hope and hurt.
