While writing Your Divine Judgment, I wanted to paint a picture of the objectification that targets of familial abuse frequently experience. Ronnie’s character portrays what it is like to have a specific expectation imposed upon you: of remaining a symbol of purity and innocence, and ultimately, to lack autonomy. I aimed to create a balance between visceral, dark imagery, and portrayals of tenderness and warmth. This story is meant to convey the strong emotions following betrayal, with the eventual discovery of how to cope, and the prospect of acceptance. I hope that Your Divine Judgment may resonate with others who have experienced abuse in any form. The rage, sadness, grief… and the pursuit of any semblance of closure.
