A metal sign that says "motel", cut into the shape of a centipede. Spots of rust and wear give the feeling of aging and dilapidation.

"Road Signs - Centipede" is one part of a four part series entitled "Road Signs". The series is both a critique and an homage to iconic American road signs. It is also an exploration of materials, and embraces the process of sculptural making across different forms. The role of art and design within capitalist systems is often seen as a tool for profit. Artists have historically been forced to justify their existence outside of (and even within) profit based endeavors. “Road Signs” attempts to subvert the role of the artist as advertiser and money maker. This sign is not meant to sell product, it is designed to be odd, questionable, and unnerving. In a world where everything is trying to sell something, “Road Signs” doesn’t want you or your money to come anywhere near its location.
