I made this piece during my Sophomore Studio at Stamps, where my thesis had to do with temporally contradicting pieces, in subject matter and style. This ranged from depicting a work-from-home lifestyle in ancient hieroglyphs to an 80s vaporwave arms manufacturer advertisement. This piece, in particular, combines the 90s snobby subject matter of global village coffeehouse, a movement centered around organic shapes and mute colors, popular in the PNW in America, with the contrasting photocopier punk art style of the 80s, defined by bright CMYK colors and bold messaging. The message of this piece came at a time of boycotting large chains for their aid in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that arose in October of 2023, and I wanted my work to reflect that sentiment through the lens of previous punk movements.
