My name is Ally Payne and I am a Boston- based artist who is currently pursuing a BFA at Stamps School of Art and Design. I specialize in illustration and graphic design, but also have a passion for painting. This project explores the concept of idioms through a series of four large scale oil paintings. I aim to visualize these expressions, the meanings of which are so far detached from their literal interpretations. The idioms I selected are “feeling blue”, “apple of my eye”, “head in the clouds”, and “eat your heart out”. Through this creative process, I seek to navigate and balance the juxtaposition between a medium known for its traditional, meticulous, and historical nature, and a subject matter and my own personal style characterized by playfulness, lightheartedness, and modernity.
