Perpetuation

Time is something no one is exempt from, it is simultaneously mundane and extraordinary. I have been captivated by the rhythms of everyday life, circumstances I found repeating, and feelings only felt when built upon one another. I endeavor to turn the conceptual into the visual through the tactile nature of oil paint, which is lost in flat screens and digital reproduction. Perpetuation is the tangible product of continuous musings of time, explored through 174 sequential panels reduced to a seventeen second video, and reproduced in a large scale oil painting. The three walls of this installation represent three different interpretations of time: linear, cyclical and simultaneous. The process in which I created each piece also resembles its intention. I painted the panels in the order of their sequence, while concurrently working on the larger piece. The repetition of documenting, uploading, and editing each panel mimicked its cyclical nature. Each step presented a discovery that informed the others.
