Deep Wounds From Love & Other Things

Andy Maticorena Kajie

Rice paper pigment prints, medical tape, thread, sulfuric acid, baking soda, 2022

Graduate

Deep Wounds From Love & Other Things is an ephemeral, ever-degrading, photo-sculpture in which original rice paper pigment prints are deconstructed with sulfuric acid. This chemical process, paired with the attempt at reparation with medical tape and thread allows for the continual disintegration of the artwork. The medical tape and thread resembling sutures hints at the relationship between memory and mental health as the original images of a once-lived experiences now physically represent the fluidity of memory as it inevitably falls apart.
