Sonoglyphs

Cody Cai

Sonoglyphs are a visual language for sound. Breaking away from traditional rules of phonetic English language, Sonoglyphs consist of a comprehensive set of abstract sounds designed and mapped to a written language. The glyphs possess both a mathematical and abstract component to them with over 200 glyphs that can express simple or complex thoughts. Sonoglyphs invite users to engage their senses in a unique type of creation process—allowing users to interpret sounds and compose their own messages through symbols. Whether it's a message, story, or poem, users can explore a new way of listening and writing. Through Sonoglyphs, I hope to share my interpretation of sound and challenge the literary limitations of the written language.
