Jessica Gray: Inconspicuous Consumption

Inconspicuous Consumption

Jessica Gray

Inconspicuous Consumption is an investigation of marijuana use among young Detroiters through recycled and donated cigarillo wrappers. This study takes form as an elaborately designed dress to insinuate the cost of this consumption. Over the collection span of two years, each sewn together cigarillo wrapper represents more than $28,000 of marijuana consumption. The dress serves as a public disclosure of a mainly private and extremely costly activity.
