Reconstruction/Reconciliation explores my Korean American bicultural identity. The work mimics traditional Korean architecture, hanok, and wooden furniture, mok-kagu, but is not actually functional nor does it adhere to the rules of traditional Korean design. Instead, the installation offers a strange juxtaposition of Western and Korean styles to create a fantasy space of soft sculpture that reflects the confusion and flexibility resulting from mixing of cultures.
