Michael Nalley: Pangea

Pangea

Michael Nalley

A few years after a photography assignment took me to Tanzania, where I had the opportunity to photograph the people and fauna, I had the idea of a photo series where I took images of the animals I had photographed and placed them into the lush settings of where I live on Bainbridge Island in Washington. The challenge was to pay attention to the details of light, composition, perspective and principles of photography in order to create images that allow the viewer to suspend their sense of reality. The Pangea series imagines a long forgotten land bridge existing between Africa and Bainbridge Island, Washington. Scientist speculate that if such a land bridge existed, it likely occurred some time between the late Paleozoic and 1973.
