Get Well Soon

‘Get Well Soon’, is a comic that explores my experience living with chronic illnesses. It’s an uncomfortable topic for an outsider looking in, as it's especially difficult facing the pain in others. Though often initially comforted by the sympathy from others, that sentiment drains over time as the maladies persist. ‘Get Well Soon’, illustrates how living with an illness is simply my reality– one that I will probably live with forever, and that I will have different needs than a healthy person. I use a loose-handed illustration style to discuss something that causes anxiety and tension. I feel comics are an often-overlooked artistic medium, especially with their grassroots influence and that they have only relatively recently received any kind of academic consideration. Comics combine words and images to tell a story, words say what a drawing won't and drawings show what can't be said. So, let's read comics, see others' truths, and talk about difficult topics.
