Curriculum Vitae- BFA, Drawing and Painting, Saginaw Valley State University
Michael D. King Jr., also known as Modius Modi, is an interdisciplinary artist with a BFA in Drawing from Saginaw Valley State University and is currently pursuing his MFA in Fine Arts at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. His work dives deep into the human experience through his “EDEN” series. Pulling inspiration from anime, manga, classical art, music, cinematography, and philosophy, his art is both personal and universal, meant to resonate with others just as the stories that shaped him once did. Since childhood, King has been relentless in his craft, spending countless hours drawing, refining, and experimenting. His work merges tight, intricate pen work with moments of looseness and abstraction, balancing precision with spontaneity.
For King, art isn’t just a passion; it’s survival. It’s what gets him up every day, what helped him through his lowest points, and what amplifies the best moments of his life. He believes in the grind, in pushing through repetition and struggle to create something meaningful. His “EDEN” series attempts to capture that journey. Characters navigating their own paths, striving for something greater, even if the destination isn’t always clear. Through his work, King hopes to inspire others the same way he was once inspired, proving that art is not just about skill but about persistence, expression, and the ability to connect across time and space.
