Jake Stucker is a product and systems designer from Bowling Green, Ohio. His practice is driven by a fascination with information and data systems, material experimentation, and a commitment to environmental conservation. His innate curiosity and interest in systems thinking have led him to explore both digital methods and physical media, with work ranging from bookmaking and metal fabrication to passive water filtration.
Jake’s most notable design research focuses on post-natural relationships between commercial and agricultural settings and their adjacent natural environments, with particular emphasis on addressing threats in the Great Lakes watershed. Alongside other environmental conservation work, he continues to develop AALTO Filters, a passive filtration and nutrient-neutralization system he co-founded and designed to treat agricultural and drainage runoff as it flows through ditches and streams, helping reduce nutrient pollution before it reaches natural waterways and fuels harmful algal blooms. Through collaboration with conservation agencies, environmental researchers, and farmers, Jake’s approach centers on developing practical solutions that complement existing conservation methods and sustainable resource-management practices to foster cleaner, healthier rivers and lakes.
Before starting the MDes program, Jake worked in tech consulting across a range of industries and diverse client teams. During his consulting career, Jake also leaned into creative outlets like photography, drawing, and recently presented on the growing necessity of personal creativity at a TEDx event at his alma mater, BGSU.
