Alyssa Lizzini

Alyssa Lizzini is a drawer and painter whose work explores social geography and nonlinear time in city spaces. Many of Lizzini’s layered images are inspired by her own archival, ethnographic, and visual research of place, as well as recollections of personal histories and narratives. She sees drawing and painting as forms of documentary, creating visually complex images that mirror the complexity of our sociospatial world while adding new layers of context to our everyday experience of place.

Lizzini is also interested in the practice of drawing as a form of social engagement within a space or community. She has led drawing workshops in numerous cities, where participants use the slow, careful practice of observational drawing as a way to connect more deeply with their neighborhood, inspiring reinvestment and community-driven care.

Aside from exhibiting in galleries, Lizzini has also participated in a number of public art projects, ranging from murals to sculptural city engagements. Lizzini received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and is currently a first-year student in the University of Michigan Stamps MFA Program.
