Stamps Students Exhibit Work at Matthaei Botanical Garden

During the winter 2026 semester, students in Lecturer Patricia Beals’s Making Science Visible class (ARTDES 364) spent time exploring the variety of plants in the Conservatory at Matthaei Botanical Gardens.

Each student chose one plant to focus on, and started with observational drawings to explore some of their subject’s interesting features. From there, they developed a series of questions about their plant based on their observations. This led to further inquiry, research, and ultimately, an educational project. Students created an interpretation panel for the Conservatory highlighting one of their questions, with a flip panel to provide an illustrated answer.

Student observational drawings and interpretation panels are currently on display at Matthaei, and will continue to be featured through the early summer.
