Stamps @ NCECA

Stamps exhibitions and events at Volumes, NCECA's conference in Detroit.

Every year, The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) hosts a national conference that advances creation, teaching, and learning through clay in the contemporary world. This year, Volumes, the 60th annual conference, will be held in Detroit from March 25 – 28, creating a singular moment where an international clay community will come to Southeast Michigan seeking community, inspiration, and artistic excellence.

As a keynote sponsor, the Stamps School of Art & Design is excited to welcome ceramics artists and educators to the area, and to bring our students, faculty, staff, and alumni to Volumes for this amazing opportunity for connection, networking, learning, and essential material practice. We’re also proud to present two exhibitions in Detroit during the conference: Impressions, a showcase of art by Michigan High school students and teachers; and Legacies, an exhibition of new and recent work by diverse intergenerational artists working in clay.

Legacies: Contemporary Art Dialogues with Clay

On the occasion of the 2026 NCECA conference in Detroit, Stamps Gallery will organize an exhibition of new and recent work by diverse intergenerational artists working in clay locally and nationally. Collectively, these works preserve and evolve age-old artistic traditions from weaving, mark-making, and pottery as contemporary forms of resistance and resilience; recovery and regeneration that draw on diasporic and ancestral knowledge of world-building and translation.

Featuring work by Maya Davis, Adebunmi Gbadebo, Nicole Marroquin, Marie Woo, and Hedy Yang.
