Shaun Jackson: 1949 - 2013

We are deeply saddened to share the news that our friend and colleague Shaun Jackson has passed away. Shaun was critically injured in an accident in Florida over the weekend when the small airplane in which he was a passenger crashed. Shaun suffered extensive burns and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, January 15.

For more than two decades, Shaun has been a dedicated and beloved member of our community, mentoring generations of designers and sharing his optimism and love of life with all of us. He was the model of the interdisciplinary design educator, teaching across units and holding faculty appointments in art and design, architecture, and business. The entire university has lost a true friend and citizen.

We have set up a memorial page to share memories and stories about Shaun and to commemorate his work and life. We invite you to share your thoughts, either directly on the memorial page, or via email.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 11:00 AM.
St Andrew’s Episcopal Church
306 North Division Street, Ann Arbor, MI

A shuttle bus will be available to provide transportation to and from the memorial service: the shuttle will begin at 10:10 am and will operate on a loop between the Art & Architecture Building and St. Andrew’s Church until the service begins at 11:00 am. We anticipate trips at approximately 10:10 am, 10:30 am, and 10:50 am (depending on traffic).

The bus — a UM Blue Bus — will pick up on Bonisteel Blvd., at the east entrance to the building (the entrance closer to the Slusser Gallery) and drop off in front of St. Andrew’s Church on Division Street.

Following the service, the shuttle will pick up passengers at the AATA bus stop in front of St. Andrew’s, and return to the A&A Building. The return shuttle will operate on a loop as needed.
