Sally Clegg & Nicholas Dowgwillo Exhibit at SGCI
Stamps lecturer Sally Clegg and 2D supervisor Nicholas Dowgwillo showcased their ongoing research and curatorial collaboration, Solid States, at the 2024 Southern Graphics Council International Conference (SGCI) with a new exhibition titled WARP/WRAP. Held at the historic Dye House gallery in Providence, RI, the exhibition featured a select group of artists, including Tyanna Buie (RISD), Imin Yeh (CMU), Clegg, and Dowgwillo. These artists presented innovative works that span diverse methods and subjects, all united by their engagement with what Clegg and Dowgwillo term “3D printmaking,” exploring the interplay between object and image.
Solid States—a multifaceted project encompassing exhibitions, workshops, and publications — seeks to challenge the conventional notion that printmaking is inherently a “2D” medium, especially in the age of 3D printing. The project encourages viewers from all backgrounds to rethink the boundaries between objects and images.
This exhibition and associated events were made possible by the generous support of Stamps Creative Practice and Research Support Fund, and the Southern Graphics Council International.
