Philip Stead writes Caldecott Award-winning Book
The Illustrated book “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” (Roaring Brook Press) written by A&D graduate Philip C. Stead (BFA 2003) and illustrated by Erin Stead, has won a 2010 Caldecott Award from The American Library Association. The story, which revolves around a sick zoo keeper visited by the animals he takes care of, was written by Philip specifically to fit his wife’s illustration style. “I tried to dream up characters that would be perfect for her to illustrate” he said.
Erin Stead has another book coming out in 2012, and Philip, whose “Creamed Tuna Fish and Peas on Toast,” was published in 2009, will have a new book in Summer 2011. Erin and Phillip are working now on their next book together about a bear.
