Oliver Uberti Illustrates the Cover of Nature

032626 Nature Old Friends

Stamps alum Oliver Uberti (BFA 03) continues to bridge the worlds of design and science with his latest piece: a scientific illustration featured on the cover of Nature, one of the most prestigious scientific publications in the world.

For the March 2026 cover, Uberti created a compelling illustration depicting a human and their canine companion near an early settlement in Ice Age Switzerland. The image accompanies an article that describes new research on the origins and spread of dogs across Eurasia. While dogs have long been considered humanity’s earliest companions, the study reveals that their diversification began much earlier than previously understood.

Uberti embedded a hidden detail within the composition: I took artistic license to hide a portrait of my floppy-eared spaniel in the picture. Can you spot her?”

Uberti’s work shows how visual storytelling can make complex research more accessible, engaging, and human, playing a vital role in shaping how new discoveries are seen and understood.
