Stamps Professor Nick Tobier’s work is featured in Tender Force, on view now at JEM / Justin Edward Moore Gallery, Brooklyn.
Tender Force is part 1 of 2 exhibitions focusing on Nick’s recent work at JEM, a new gallery in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, featuring a compendium of Tobier’s drawings of stacked dwellings. Each dwelling revels in a diverse array of DIY building practices that make do with what is at hand and find imaginative solutions from a plethora of sources. These humble and inventive structures are fashioned out of accumulated materials — pieces of ornamental ironwork, samples of faux stone, left over shipping containers, portions of pre-fabricated garden gazebos. These vertiginous dwellings are equal parts precise and fantastic and showcase the creative solutions of architecture without architects.
