Joyce Brienza Exhibits in Detroit

Brienza scarab

Drawn Together, an exhibition of drawings curated by Stamps Lecturer Joyce Brienza, is on display at the Scarab Club in Detroit through October 15. Brienza will present a gallery talk at 2pm on Saturday, September 24. The exhibition was recently reviewed in Detroit Art Review: Drawn Together @ the Scarab Club.

The new exhibition works from a group of artists and friends who have a common interest in the idea of drawing as end point rather than a preparatory act. We see the pencil in some ways as an instrument of nostalgia, recalling a slower pre-digital era. Our work ranges from narrative to abstraction but displays a conceptual bent towards popular culture and questions the segregation of the fine and applied arts.
