John Gutoskey: ROUND HOLE, SQUARE PEG
Three prints by John Gutoskey, third year MFA candidate, are included in an exhibition opening at Smart Clothes Gallery in New York City in August, including the intaglio print The Homosexual Species in Childhood, Cleveland, Ohio USA (1967−1970). The prints were chosen for the exhibition ROUND HOLE, SQUARE PEG, a curated invitational that intends to examine the evolving LGBT identity as we move into the 21st Century. The exhibition hopes to illustrate and help define a new queer aesthetic at this juncture in time. ROUND HOLE, SQUARE PEG wishes to explore aspects of domesticity, recollections of queer childhood/teen life, the coming out process, self image, body, gender and identity, aging and perception in the global community.
