Jesse Stiles Releases "ECOLOGIES" with Percussionist Brian Shankar Adler

A first-person view of a gloved hand holding a vinyl record in front of a rocky shoreline and ocean. The album cover features large, stylized tan-colored block lettering on a dark teal background that reads "HOW TO SEE KNOW AND FALL." Scrawled across the center in black ink is the word "Ecologies." Small white text in the upper right corner lists the artists Jesse Stiles and Brian Shankar Adler, along with the Adhyâropa Records logo.

ECOLOGIES is the debut LP from How to See Know and Fall, the duo project of Stamps Associate Professor Jesse Stiles and Brian Shankar Adlar. The record comprises nine instrumental tracks, forming an electro-acoustic odyssey that spans infectious grooves, delicate melodies, and towering walls of noise.

Conceived as a remote collaboration during the pandemic lockdown, the project evolved to include recordings from the group’s earliest live performances once in-person shows returned. Each track, titled by novelist and poet Jesse Ball — who also penned a manifesto for the accompanying zine — highlights the duo’s adventurous interplay between experimental percussion and electronics, by turns playful and pulverizing.

With additional production and mastering by Alexander Panos and original artwork by Gabriel Guedelha, ECOLOGIES arrives via Adhyâropa Records in both vinyl and a paper” edition (zine plus digital), inviting listeners to explore a world of layered, ever-shifting sound.
