Ian Matchett: Solo Exhibition at Galerie Camille

Ian Matchett - “For A Country That Does Not Yet Exist”

Work by Ian Matchett (BFA 14) is featured in For a Country That Does Not Yet Exist, a solo exhibition opening at Detroit’s Galerie Camille on May 2.

A collection of work rooted in the possibility of a radically better world, and dedicated to the comrades and friends working to guide us forward. At a time of escalating crisis, as the world’s most powerful empire stumbles, we are tasked with imagining and building a radically better world. Art cannot change the world on its own. The most radical image or approach means little if it cannot connect to the masses of people who shape history. It is the people who make history, but art has a role to play in helping us all imagine a world that has never been. Between the darkness of the present and the dawn of a liberated future, it helps us sustain, connect, remember our communities; it has the power to remind us of our strength and support us as we learn to walk together.
