Emilia Javanica Performs
Emilia Javanica performed at the first annual Chicago Women’s Funny Festival on Sunday, June 10 at 6pm. Her performance piece, “Buoj iz Jeb Summer Swimsuit Edition 2012” was first debuted at the Performance Laboratory’s August 2011 “Water Show”, an ongoing performance series Emilia co-curates with A&D alumna Carrie Morris.
Further developed to fill a 25-minute slot at the Chicago Women’s Funny Festival, Emilia hopes to woo the Chicago ladies crowd with her impressive Buoj iz Jeb moves on the dance floor. The Chicago Women’s Funny Festival was conceived as a female version of the well-known Chicago Sketch Festival, which draws crowds annually of over 10,000 people. The Chicago Women’s Funny Festival will celebrate not only sketch, but all forms of comedy including stand-up, vaudeville, improvisational, musical and more. With 66 shows, more than 135 comedic groups and 400 performers, this anticipated event has hit the press with a bang! Throughout the 5‑day event, the festival will also feature panel discussions, including a June 2 afternoon gathering entitled “Being Funny is Serious Business.” As quoted by Jill Valentine, one of the main organizers of the event: “We just wanted to do an event that celebrated women in comedy,” explains Valentine. “We definitely wanted quality control for sure but with such an outpouring, it was just about seeing what we got and what we could do. I’m confident that we definitely picked the best of the best. It’s going to be amazing to get all of these women under one roof and celebrate together.”
