Dennis Guastella Exhibits at Paint Creek Gallery

Guastella PC w

From January 21 — February 19, 2011, the Paint Creek Center for the Arts will turn over its First Floor Gallery to Dennis Guastella for a solo exhibit of his paint collages. The exhibition opens on Friday, January 21 from 7 to 9 pm.

Guastella has developed his own technique to create abstract acrylic collages. He applies thick skins of paint to a surface, then chips and peels the paint skins, cuts and tears them further, and applies them in various layered compositions to textured boards. The resulting compositions are studies in color relationships, structure, surface texture, spontaneity and painterly abstraction. The artist says of his work, Basically, I really enjoy the play between structure and spontaneous marking. This theme runs through all my work. Whether I am extruding dots of paint in a random application or aligning gestured marks, my intention is to create this tension between the plan and the accident.”

Guastella, an Emeritus Teaching Faculty at The School of Visual Arts at Washtenaw Community College and a Lecturer at The University of Michigan School of Art and Design, has exhibited his work extensively in museums and galleries all over the United States and is represented in dozens of public and corporate collections.

Please join us in welcoming Dennis Guastella at an opening reception on Friday, January 21st, from 7:00 — 9:00 pm.
