Audrey G. Bennett: "Design: A Quick Immersion"
Design: A Quick Immersion, a new book by Stamps Professor Audrey G. Bennett, was released by Tibidabo Publishing on February 3, 2026. The book addresses design as a “self-organizing, cultural system mediated by power, involving people with practices situated in places that generate products — tangible and intangible outcomes — that have the potential to fulfill purposes in analog and digital places.”
School of the Art Institute of Chicago Lecturer Michele Y. Washington notes that Design: A Quick Immersion is a purpose-driven “wake-up call, urging design educators and professionals to ask the fundamental question, ‘What is design?’ ”
It challenges the established norms that shape the field. Bennett provides us with essential tools to critically assess our classrooms, question the status quo, and redefine what design truly means. Drawing from personal experiences as a person of color, she presents frameworks that are rooted in history and relevant to today’s realities. This work goes beyond mere critique; it supports a movement toward a more inclusive and equitable future for design.
Design: A Quick Immersion is the latest volume of the Quick Immersion Series, designed to “provide illuminating introductions to diverse topics in the worlds of social science, the hard sciences, philosophy and the humanities… written in clear and straightforward language by prestigious authors, the texts also offer valuable insights to readers seeking a deeper knowledge of those fields.”
Design: A Quick Immersion is available now from Amazon and booksellers everywhere.
