Andrew Millner: Ellen Miller Gallery

Drawing is at the root of Andrew Millner’s (BFA 1989) exploration of the ubiquitous rosebush. Hand drawing each petal, each leaf, each stem into a computer, he incorporates multiple views of different plants to create hybrids that test the boundary between the idea and the actuality of what we call ​“rose.” Mark upon mark, layer upon layer, his plants grow in size and complexity not by repetition, but by accumulation. Projected onto canvas, these drawings become the basis for paintings whose drips, variations of line, and exposure of bare linen further celebrate the idiosyncracies of nature. 

“Andrew Millner: Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose” will be on view at Ellen Miller Gallery from March 3 through March 28, 2012. Please join us for the artist’s opening reception on Saturday, March 3, 2 – 5 pm.
